How many times in your life have you found yourself stuck in a
relationship? It’s miserable right? It usually happens around
4 months. You started dating someone either out of connivance,
desperation or because you just wanted something to fuck. I’m
sure there are other reasons, I’m just listing out my own
personal issues that put me into those spots. Either way, by the
time you realize this usually the other person is on the other
end of the spectrum. While the thought of spending more time with
them sucks the life out of you, they have come to love you. Each
second of quiet that passes when the two of you hang out is another
second for you to work on the break-up speech. If you are lucky
three months later after a bottle of Jack that heartbreaking assault
will roll of your tongue. Wouldn’t it be better if there
were someone who would do this dirty work for you?
There is my friend and his name is Bob, Break-Up
Bob. For a small fee, some smokes and beer Bob will drive to your
other and deliver the news. There will be no tears, no begging,
no screaming. By hiring Bob and being a coward you get to avoid
all of this. This is a great idea for a short film. “Break-Up
Bob” is funny because it’s damn true. So many of us
would hire someone like Bob to do what we can not. I found this
film to be genuine, conscious and great. The best part is that
I thought the film would have been directed by a guy, but that’s
the best part it is not…a female knows what’s up.
Jennifer Medvin has done a great job presenting her idea and her
character of Bob. I would also like to add that Medvin executed
the perfect use of a song in “Break-Up Bob”. I don’t
even like AC/DC, but when Bob pulled up blaring “dirty deeds
and they’re done dirt cheap” I laughed because it
was so perfect for the film. For the most part a short film is
a good way for a new director to get their name out there. The
problem is there are so many and often get lost. More short films
need to come out like “Break-Up Bob”. A short film
that presents an experience we have all gone through but in a
humorous and laughable way. Hell, I’m even thinking about
putting out ads for a Break-Up Clay service.
